Brown/grizzly bears are found throughout Alaska with the exception of some islands. They prefer open areas and eat a wide variety of items, from berries to salmon and clams to grasses. Cubs are usually born early in the year and weigh less than 2 pounds. Healthy adult males along the coast can weigh up to 1,400 pounds (300-500 pounds inland) and females about 30 percent smaller. Brown/grizzly bears may live for 34 years.
